Empathy is your superpower
Empathy is a valuable gift that is so needed in this world. We need more leaders with empathy for others and a capacity to understand the emotional experiences of the people around them to make decisions that benefit not just one but many.
Trust creates progress
To be an effective leader, you need to balance empathy with accountability. Focus on what is accurate and what needs to be addressed to move forward. Effective leaders understand and actively practice communicating with transparency, holding individuals responsible while acknowledging the context of the circumstances.
Trust yourself
Receive others' input, but trust yourself first and take confident action. Your experience, feelings, and instincts are as important as anyone else's. What others think of you doesn't matter. You get to decide who you are and define your own identity. Your accomplishments and experience have prepared you for the next step. You already have everything you need to succeed; you just need to believe in yourself.
Integrity matters
To achieve your goals, you need to maintain integrity with yourself. Don't become so invested in other people's emotions that you compromise yourself and lose your purpose. Release yourself from chasing their approval of you and your actions. Remain true to your values and what is important to you.
Vulnerability is a Strength
Effective leaders put ego aside and are vulnerable and transparent with their teams. Asking for support is not a sign of weakness but a community-building experience. It creates a dynamic of trust and safety. It builds space for deepening relationships that are further invested in sharing the same vision for developing impact in their community, society, and world.
Communication is Key
Communicate with kindness, communicate to acknowledge, communicate to share your perspective. The core to a functioning relationship is the power of communication. Create spaces where feedback flows upward and downwards, ideas flow freely, and a culture of asking questions, inclusion, and openness exists.
